Man hurt in Chesterfield explosion - police suspect cannabis factory
It happened at Boythorpe on Friday afternoon
An explosion at a house in Chesterfield has resulted in serious injuries to a 32-year-old man and triggered an investigation into a suspected cannabis factory at the property.
Emergency services were called to Summerfield Road in Boythorpe at around 2.50pm on Friday (30th January) after reports of an explosion.
The blast caused significant damage to the detached house and affected a neighbouring property. Residents from two nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution but were not injured, and they have since been allowed to return.
Man suffers life-changing burns
The explosion left a 32-year-old man with burns that are thought to be life-changing. He was taken to hospital for treatment.
Following the explosion, officers found evidence of a suspected cannabis grow in the property.
Public urged to assist with ongoing investigation
A joint investigation between Derbyshire Constabulary and Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service is underway to establish the cause of the explosion.
The scene remains cordoned off while investigations continue, and work has been carried out to ensure the area is safe and secure.
Police have appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. They are especially interested in hearing from residents with CCTV, doorbell, or dash cam footage of the area that have not yet spoken with officers.

“Residents living nearby may have heard a loud bang yesterday afternoon, but we would like to reassure members of the public that there is no wider threat or danger to the public.”
