More adults getting stuck in the habit of smoking & vaping across South Yorkshire + North Derbyshire
We've been down to the Vapourist in Chesterfield to discuss the growing trend
It's feared there's been a rise in the amount of people 'torn' between both smoking & vaping in South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire.
A new national study shows so called 'dual use' went up in 2024 - during the 'transitional period' smokers go through whilst trying to cut down on cigarettes.
Michael Burnell is the owner of a vape store in Chesterfield - He says it can end up leaving people out of pocket:
"Every single person is different in some way or another when it comes to quitting smoking or dual using.
"Go and seek advice to suit you, not what may have suited your friend.
"The most common thing that we see with a dual user is that they're sick of spending money of multiple vape kits - without being able to break the habit.
"So, they'll use a vape in between smoking, just because it's convenient, but it doesn't change how addicted they are to either vapes or cigarettes."
A new study by experts from University College London (UCL) found that in 2016, some 3.5% of adults in England were dual users of both cigarettes and vapes.
This rose to 5.2% in 2024, they found.
