Four loanees to leave Doncaster Rovers in January
Grant McCann has confirmed a number of loanee players are heading back to their parent clubs
Doncaster Rovers manager Grant McCann has revealed that four players currently on loan at the club will return to their parent clubs in the coming weeks.
Defender Connor O’Riordan will leave following the fixture against Luton Town on 4th January after being recalled by Blackburn Rovers.
Meanwhile, Leeds United's Charlie Crew and Tottenham’s Damola Ajayi will return after Rovers decided not to extend their loan deals.
Toyosi Olusanya’s loan spell from Houston Dynamo will also end at the start of January.
Commenting on the departures, McCann said: “Connor has been outstanding. The remit for loans is for a player to help us and help himself.
"There is always the possibility that if it goes well, then he’ll be recalled, and that's been the case with Connor. I fully expect him to go back and be in Blackburn’s team. That tells me the loan has been successful.
"Charlie has been stop-start, and the international breaks haven’t helped him, going away two or three times. He probably hasn’t got to the levels that I thought he would do and that he showed last year."
Ajayi, who netted two goals in 19 games for Rovers, "was really unfortunate. We see every single day in training the ability that he's got, but he’s up against the best right winger in the league, in my opinion, Luke Molyneux" according to McCann.
“Toyosi, if he’d have started a few of the games when he first came in, we'd have seen a different side of him.
"At that point Billy Sharp was scoring goals and doing well. But Toyosi then picked up his injury and he struggled to come back from that."
“We’ll look to replace the four lads and have a strong 2026.”
