A Derbyshire man has been jailed for more than seven years after a violent burglary where he attacked his victim by throwing a television at his head.
The incident occurred in the early hours of October 25 last year in Danesmoor, Clay Cross, when the victim was at home with a friend.
Three men wearing face coverings forced their way into the victim's bedroom, pushing him backwards and assaulting him.
One burglar pulled a TV screen off the wall and hurled it at the man's head.
The attackers, who stole the victim's wallet and mobile phone, were known to the victim.
Sandy Hughes, aged 47, of Penncroft Lane, Danesmoor, was identified as one of the perpetrators and arrested.
Despite giving a no-comment during questioning, Hughes admitted to aggravated burglary.
He was sentenced to seven years and six months behind bars at Derby Crown Court at the end of last month
Additionally, Hughes was placed under a restraining order prohibiting contact with the victim.
Detective Constable Lindsay Clarke, of Derbyshire Police, said: “This was a terrifying attack in which Hughes invaded the property of the victim – a place where he should have felt most safe – before attacking him and stealing his belongings.
“I would like to pay tribute to the victim in this case for the co-operation and bravery they have shown in coming forward to assist the investigation team in bringing Hughes to justice.”
