Chesterfield FC have confirmed the signing of young Wolves defender Alfie Pond, who arrives on a permanent deal lasting until 2028.

He signed for the then Premier League side in 2022, making five appearances in the top flight and also captaining the U21s.

He has also been out on loan at Yeovil Town, Stockport County and Crewe.

Speaking to the club website on his new start, Pond said: "I’m really happy. Obviously, it came about quite quickly."

"As soon as I spoke to the gaffer and it came about, I was really happy, and I’m buzzing to be here.

"The pitches at the training ground are really nice, and obviously, I played in the stadium last season, so I’ve seen what it’s like on a matchday and been involved in the atmosphere – which is really good."

Assistant manager Danny Webb said: "We’ve got our hands on an excellent young footballer who has great ability and a strong knowledge of the level."

"He comes through the door with a good understanding of the expectations and ambitions of our football club, and we hope he will play an important role in a successful season."
