18 blank firing guns handed into Derbyshire Police during first weeks of amnesty
Police are trying to take imitation guns that could be converted into real firearms off the streets
18 blank firearms have been surrendered to police stations in Derbyshire since the launch of an amnesty earlier this month.
Dubbed 'Operation Pivot' - the campaign is set to run until February 28.
It targets five models of imitation firearms known to be easily convertible to real guns, and which are therefore illegal.
The National Crime Agency is urging people to surrender the following models:
8mm PAK Bruni BBM Model 92 blank firing self-loading pistol
8mm PAK Bruni BBM New Police blank firing self-loading pistol
8mm PAK Bruni BBM Model 96 blank firing self-loading pistol
8mm PAK Bruni BBM Model ‘GAP’ blank firing self-loading pistol
.380R (9mmK) PAK Bruni BBM ME Ranger single-action blank firing revolver
Possessing these firearms after the amnesty could lead to a prison sentence of up to 10 years.
So far, eight firearms of the above types and ten other types of blank firearms have been handed in in Derbyshire.
Locals can surrender these firearms at police stations in St Mary's Wharf, Chesterfield, and Buxton stations.
You can also contact the force directly to arrange a handover.
