A driver in Barnsley has spent a night in the cells after being found to be three times over the legal limit.

Police were called last night to reports of a vehicle colliding with three parked cars on Farm Road.

The driver reportedly left the scene, but a man matching his description was spotted by officers en route..

Based on the man's slurred speech and difficulty standing, officers suspected him of being drunk.

They asked him to conduct a roadside breath test, a request he refused.

The 33-year-old was then arrested on suspicion of failing to provide a breath test and leaving the scene of the collision.

In custody, he provided a breath sample registering 116 milligrams of alcohol, far exceeding the legal limit of 35.
