Man arrested after elderly woman conned out of almost £12,000 in Barnsley
A 27 year old man is being questioned on suspicion of fraud and forgery
A 27 year old man has been arrested after allegedly conning an elderly woman in Barnsley out of almost £12,000.
The victim, in her 80s, was encouraged to hand cash over to a courier after receiving an unsolicited phone call.
A man who was pretending to a police officer pressured her to withdraw the money from her bank, by claiming her account had been used for fraud.
She lost approximately £11,800 because of the scam.
A suspect was detained on suspicion of fraud and forgery in Derby last Wednesday (March 26).
He has since been released on bail.
