A 27 year old man has been arrested after allegedly conning an elderly woman in Barnsley out of almost £12,000.

The victim, in her 80s, was encouraged to hand cash over to a courier after receiving an unsolicited phone call.

A man who was pretending to a police officer pressured her to withdraw the money from her bank, by claiming her account had been used for fraud.

She lost approximately £11,800 because of the scam.

A suspect was detained on suspicion of fraud and forgery in Derby last Wednesday (March 26).

He has since been released on bail.
