Appeal after man left in life-threatening condition following reported stabbing in Barnsley

A man has been allegedly stabbed during a suspected robbery at the Todays Express shop yesterday evening

Police are appealing for information following an alleged stabbing in Barnsley.

It was reported yesterday evening (7 May) at around 8:50pm, that a man had been stabbed during a suspected robbery at the Todays Express Shop.

Emergency services were called to Pontefract Road in Lundwood.

A 40-year-old man was taken to hospital with in a life-threatening condition. He remains in hospital and his condition is reported to have recently stabilised.

Extensive enquiries, including CCTV trawls, house to house work and searches undertaken by specialist forensic teams are now underway.

Police are asking anyone with information to come forward in order to support their investigation.

Acting Detective Chief Inspector Helen Hughes said:

"We understand news of this incident will cause significant concern locally and I want to reassure you that we're working at pace to progress lines of enquiry and identify a suspect.

"You'll notice an increased police presence in the area today and officers will be out on dedicated patrols over the weekend to provide reassurance and answer any questions you might have.

"I'd urge anyone who thinks they have information which could help us to get in touch as soon as possible.

"The details you have might seem insignificant, but it could prove to be a vital piece of the jigsaw as our investigation progresses."
