South Yorkshire universities prepare for the clearing process as part of A-level results day
Pupils are finding out their grades this morning
Students across South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire will be opening their A-Level results today.
Latest figures show many young people are considering going straight into the world of work - or training - with just a third seeing university as the best preparation for a career.
Dan Barcroft is from the Uni of Sheffield - we've been asking him about the clearing process:
"Clearing has always been an opportunity for those who didn't quite meet the grades for their place at university.
"However, these days, it's much more than that actually; it's for people who've done better than they perhaps thought or maybe have changed their mind about what's next for them.
"If you haven't quite got the grades for your offer of your first place, then don't panic.
"Make sure you have a plan B and friends & family around to support you.
"It is quite competitive, and therefore if you do find yourself in a queue on the phone about clearing, you should stay in that queue and wait.
"There will be other universities that have got spaces on some courses available for the next few weeks ahead.
"So, there will be an opportunity out there, and you should really keep going and work through all of your options - but start with the most competitive."
"Preparation is really key to a successful clearing day."
