Authorities say a series of 'deliberately set' fires lead to a major blaze last night, which was visible for miles across Swansea.

The fire, which started in the Mayhill area some time before 7.15pm, affected approximately two hectares of land.

Firefighters used hose reel jets, beaters, and knapsacks to bring the fire under control.

Crews have been re-inspecting the area today, where smoke can still be seen rising into the air.

The wildfire has been described as the latest in a spate of deliberate fires in the region.

A spokesperson for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "Arson and deliberate fire-setting is a serious criminal offence, which can put lives in danger and cause significant damage to property and the environment.

"Incidents following arson-related activities can put immense pressure on the resources of Fire and Rescue Services and other emergency services, as well as divert resources from other emergencies, potentially delaying response times for genuine accidents elsewhere."
