St Helens redevelopment complete ahead of Ospreys return
The Swansea based team will face the Dragons at their new home this evening
St Helen’s is set to become a busy centre for sport and community activity again, with the redevelopment of the Swansea landmark nearing completion.
The ground has undergone a major overhaul, including the installation of a new all-weather playing surface and floodlights, while work continues on new spectator stands.
The revamped venue is due to start hosting regular users from October, with local schools, colleges, universities, rugby clubs and community organisations among those set to make use of the facilities.
The project, funded through investment from Swansea Council and the Ospreys, will see the stadium become the home ground of both the Ospreys and Swansea RFC.
But the aim is for the site to play a much bigger role in the community, providing a base for grassroots rugby and other sporting activities throughout the year.
Fans will also see changes around the ground, including a new fan area and additional seating through the construction of south and west stands.
Swansea School Boys, Gower College Swansea and Swansea University will all use the venue, alongside Swansea RFC and the Ospreys.
The Ospreys will officially begin their competitive life at the redeveloped St Helen’s tonight, when they take on the Dragons.
The facilities will also be available for other groups and organisations to book, with details of how to hire the pitch and event spaces expected to be released by the Ospreys.
