Ruth Jones in running for Author of the Year at British Book Awards

Jones has earned a nomination for book of the year in the audiobook non-fiction category with her memoir When Gavin Met Stacey

Ruth Jones, known for co-creating the popular BBC comedy Gavin And Stacey, and American author Freida McFadden are in contention for author of the year at this year's British Book Awards.

Jones, 59, has earned a nomination for book of the year in the audiobook non-fiction category with her memoir When Gavin Met Stacey And Everything In Between: A Story Of Love And Friendship.

In addition to her writing and acting career, Jones has authored novels such as Never Greener, Us Three, and Love Untold.

McFadden, 45, who gained acclaim with her best-selling novel The Housemaid, will compete for author of the year against Jones.

Her psychological thriller The Tenant is also featured in the crime and thriller category alongside Richard Osman’s The Impossible Fortune, part of the Thursday Murder Club series.

Other nominees for author of the year include Mick Herron, known for his Slough House series, illustrator Charlie Mackesy, fantasy novelist AF Steadman, and Elif Shafak.

The shortlist for non-fiction narrative includes Osbourne's autobiography Last Rites, and Virginia Giuffre's memoir Nobody's Girl.

Suzanne Collins has been nominated in the children's fiction category for Sunrise On The Reaping, with the film adaptation set to release this year.

In the non-fiction, lifestyle and illustrated category, nominees include Jamie Oliver's Eat Yourself Healthy and Joe Wicks's Protein In 15.

Among the audiobook fiction nominees is The Long Shoe by Bob Mortimer, narrated by Mortimer, Diane Morgan, and Arabella Weir.

Michael Rosen's latest collaboration with Helen Oxenbury, Oh Dear, Look What I Got!, is up for the children's non-fiction illustrated category.

This year's ceremony will feature the inaugural BBC Radio 2's book club award, with the winner selected from last year's book club choices.

Chairwoman of the Books of the Year, Alice O'Keeffe, highlighted the new categories for romantic fiction, graphic novels, and science fiction and fantasy as part of the celebration of 2025's best books.

Winners will be announced at Grosvenor House London on 11th May.
