An officer has been taken to hospital with burns after fireworks were thrown towards police during a gathering in Caerphilly.
South Wales Police said bottles and fireworks were thrown towards an address in Snowden Court, Lansbury Park, on Thursday evening.
Officers had been made aware of a planned gathering and were at the scene when the disorder took place.
The injured officer was taken to hospital for treatment.
No arrests were made on the night and the crowd was dispersed.
Superintendent Ryan Francis said the behaviour of some people at the gathering was unacceptable and had put members of the public and police officers at risk.
He said peaceful protest was a fundamental part of democracy, but organisers had a responsibility to ensure events were held within the law.
He added that violence and aggression towards officers should not be dismissed as part of their job.
Police say enquiries are continuing and anyone found to have committed offences, either during the gathering or in the lead-up to it, will be dealt with.
