Man jailed after weapons hoard found in Abergwynfi
A major police operation was launched in February following the discovery
A man has been sentenced to five and a half years in prison after a significant weapons stash was found in his Abergwynfi home.
Maximin Carter, 51, pleaded guilty to multiple charges relating to the possession of illegal weapons at his property on Commercial Street.
Carter was found with a range of offensive weapons within the house, prompting a large police operation earlier this year in February.
He admitted to six counts of possessing an offensive weapon in a private place and one count of possessing a prohibited self-contained gas cartridge air weapon during a court appearance in March.
Detective Sergeant Kristian Burt commented on the incident, highlighting the concern faced by Abergwynfi's residents:
"This incident in February will have rightfully caused a great deal of concern to the people of Abergwynfi, who would not have been sure whether their homes were safe due to the nature of the weapons that Maximin Carter had been amassing."
He further expressed gratitude to the community for their cooperation during the investigation:
"We would like to give those residents a massive thank-you for their co-operation and understanding while we made our enquiries and carried out our investigation following Maximin Carter’s arrest back in February."
Detective Sergeant Burt reassured the public regarding the safety of the area:
"They can be assured that Abergwynfi is much safer now that these weapons have been seized."
