Firefighting helicopter deployed amid concern over ongoing wildfires
Natural Resources Wales carrying out targeted water drops to suppress fire in 'difficult to access areas'
Fire crews are continuing to tackle multiple wildfires near Cwmystwyth in the Elan Valley, where fires have been reported since the weekend.
Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service say crews, along with partner agencies, remain on-site to control the flames that have disrupted rare habitats supporting vulnerable nesting birds, small mammals, and sensitive peat areas.
A firefighting helicopter, operated by Natural Resources Wales, has been deployed to conduct targeted water drops in hard-to-reach locations.
Smoke from the wildfires has led to public health advice for those nearby.
Residents are advised to remain indoors with doors and windows shut to avoid smoke exposure.
Travellers passing through affected areas should keep car windows and vents closed and deactivate air conditioning to minimise inhalation.
Concerned individuals with smoke-related symptoms are urged to contact NHS 111 Wales or visit their online portal.
Authorities have asked the public to steer clear from the fire zone, noting that entering poses risks and disrupts emergency operations.
