Teen driver who drove into pedestrians outside club in Cardiff found guilty of murder
38 year old Shelley Davies died after she and her partner were struck outside the 4th Glamorgan Home Guard Club in Caerau
A man has been found guilty of murder after a jury found he deliberately drove in to pedestrians outside a club in Cardiff.
Shelley Davies, aged 38, sustained severe injuries and died on 18th October 2025 at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.
Her partner, David Bratcher, aged 40, was also injured and treated at the same hospital.
The verdict was delivered following a trial at Cardiff Crown Court, where Kian Bateman from Caerau, Cardiff, was also convicted on charges of grievous bodily harm with intent.
Bateman, aged 19, admitted causing death and injury through dangerous driving but denied murder and attempted murder.
The incident occurred outside the 4th Glamorgan Home Guard Club in Caerau, Cardiff, on 27th September 2025.
Emergency services were summoned to Heol Trelai after a report was received about a collision involving pedestrians.
Detective Chief Inspector Matt Powell from South Wales Police said: “Shelley Davies was loved dearly by her family and friends. Our thoughts remain with them today as they have been throughout this horrendous ordeal.
“We welcome the convictions at court today and would like to thank all the witnesses who assisted the investigation, the Caerau community, as well as the prosecution team.”
Kian Bateman will be sentenced on 3rd July 2026.
