The Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend has temporarily stopped accepting emergency patients following an issue with its water supply.

Health officials are advising patients to visit alternative hospitals while efforts to resolve the disruption are underway.

This temporary closure comes shortly after major repairs were completed at the hospital.

A spokesperson said: "We are experiencing significant temporary disruption to the water supply at Princess of Wales Hospital.

"Due to a water shortage, we are currently unable to accept patients into the Emergency Department this evening while we work to resolve the issue.

"Please do not attend the Emergency Department at Princess of Wales Hospital unless absolutely necessary. If you need urgent or emergency care, please attend another hospital wherever possible.

"There will be no visiting on site this evening.

"We are working closely with Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water to restore services as quickly as possible."

Over a year ago, significant long-term damage to the hospital's roof was discovered, leading to repair costs of around £28 million, financed by the Welsh Government.
