The Southampton Test MP's urging people to report antisocial behaviour as there's a rise in hate crime, following the murder of Henry Nowak.

Satvir Kaur MP says she's working closely with police and with diverse communities.

She's urging people to report any antisocial behaviour as protests continue.

She said: "I'm working closely with them police to ensure that local residents, my community, our communities throughout Southampton feel and are safe.

"Our intelligence is key, which is why anyone experiencing anything, I would strongly encourage you to report it to the police because it just helps paint a picture.

"We're obviously seeing more protests locally, which I know the local community are really anxious about, so please do report anything you hear about or see.

"Sadly at a time when emotions and tensions are high, there's been a rise in hate crime, which is really sad to see.

"Our city prides itself on being very cohesive and we won't allow individuals or groups to sow divisions between us.

"I've been working really closely with all our diverse communities, including the Sikh community who feel really targeted at the moment.

"In this country, we don't believe in collective punishment.

"One person's brutal, evil act or criminality does not reflect an entire community's, and we shouldn't act in that way either.

"It's really sad to see people targeting people from the diverse community, and more often than not, they're being targeted by people outside of our city.

"I've heard some really heart-warming stories of communities looking after neighbours and people stopping others in the street to check in and see if they're okay, which is so lovely to see."
