Portsmouth100 photo to be taken from space
It is part of the Portsmouth Armed Forces Day
A special photograph is being taken today in Portsmouth - from space!
A satellite is set to pass over the Portsmouth Armed Forces Day event on Southsea Common. It is all part of the year-long celebration of Portsmouth's 100 years as a city.
An Airbus satellite is passing over the event on Southsea Common and will capture a moment of Portsmouth history.
Visitors will form the Portsmouth100 logo in the main arena for the special aerial photo.
Portsmouth City Council Leader Cllr Steve Pitt said:
"This is a real one-off opportunity to be part of Portsmouth's history. It's a photo that will be looked back on for years to come showing how we celebrated the 100th anniversary of our great city. One to tell future generations 'I was there!'
"And there's so much more happening on the day, including Spitfires and air displays which are always popular, as we celebrate our armed forces community heroes."
The free community day runs from 10am - 4pm on Southsea Common.
The photograph is due to be taken at 11.49am - the exact moment the satellite will pass overhead.
