Police investigating death of teenage motorcyclist in Southampton issue update

Police are appealing for information following a tragic collision on Northam Bridge in Southampton on Saturday,

Emergency services were called shortly after 1:20am to respond to a collision involving a silver VW Polo and a white Yamaha YZF motorcycle.

Details of the incident

The motorcyclist, a 17-year-old from Fareham, was transported to hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries.

His family has been informed.

Two men, a 17-year-old and a 29-year-old from Southampton, were arrested under suspicion of causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving.

The younger man has been released and will face no further action, while the 29-year-old has been released under investigation as enquiries continue.

Appeal for witnesses

Motorists faced delays as Northam Bridge was closed for several hours for investigation.

Police are keen to talk to witnesses, especially those who may have dash cam footage from the incident or its lead-up.
