New specialist detection dogs join police efforts in Hampshire and Isle of Wight
Harry and Whitney bolster regional anti-drug operations
Two newly trained police dogs, Harry and Whitney, have successfully completed their specialist training as drugs detection dogs, ready to assist frontline policing across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
The dogs are part of the Joint Operations Unit (JOU), a collaborative effort working not only in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight but also across the Thames Valley region, providing them with the capability to be deployed over a wider area.
Having undergone an intensive training programme, Harry and Whitney are now equipped to support officers in identifying and disrupting illegal drug activities. Their duties include assisting with vehicle stops, executing search warrants, and participating in community operations to enhance safety and enforce stricter measures against drug supply offenders.
Inspector Andy Mooge expressed confidence in the new team members:
"Harry and Whitney have shown fantastic potential throughout their training. Their deployment will significantly enhance our ability to detect drugs and support operations across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Police dogs are an invaluable asset, and we are delighted to welcome them to the team."
The addition of Harry and Whitney to the force strengthens community safety efforts by providing robust support against illegal drug activities in the region.
