The Lord Mayor's set to visit the Maritime Volunteer Service on the River Itchen today as part of a water safety demonstration.

The tour will start at Shamrock Quay, with the Lord Mayor, Councillor James Baillie, flying his flag aboard the "Wizard of Bembridge" and accompanied by the MVS Itchen Volunteer and Hamble Independent Lifeboats.

It's planned to stop at St Denys Boat Club ahead of the group crossing Cobden Bridge to Riverside Park where a throw rope demonstration, open to the public, will take place.

Councillor James Baillie, Right Worshipful Lord Mayor of Southampton said: “The new Throw Rope Cabinets are vital pieces of kit.

"We are so lucky to have many blue spaces throughout Southampton, and with the warmer months coming, water safety is especially important.

"I encourage as many people as possible to come down on Monday to see the demonstrations.

"I’m also hugely grateful to The Southampton Water Safety Forum for their hard work and dedication to this project and beyond.”

The demonstration's planned to make use of the Throw Rope Cabinets installed by Southampton City Council over the winter to replace life buoys which had been vandalised.

It will take place between 1pm and 3pm, with people from the area encouraged to join in and learn water safety skills.
