Hampshire and Isle of Wight fire service share firework safety tips for New Year
Advice includes keeping children away from fireworks and standing well back
If you're planning on lighting the skies to bring in the New Year tonight, Hampshire and Isle of Wight fire service are urging you to stay safe.
The service say to keep children away from the fireworks, stand well back and ensure buckets of water are to hand for sparklers.
Kelly Hedges is from the Community Safety team - she's sharing her advice.
She said: "Make sure that fireworks are bought from a reputable retailer and that they do have the safety mark on it.
"Keep them in a closed box and follow the instructions.
"Stand well back after lighting any firework.
"Make sure that children keep away from them.
"If we are using sparklers, make sure we're using gloves.
"Don't go near a firework once it's been lit and stay well back.
"Also, if you are having a bonfire, make sure that you've got a bucket of water present as well."
