Man jailed after serious assault investigation in Upton
Steven Wenzel has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.
A man has been jailed following a police investigation into a serious assault in Upton.
In October last year, a man in his 50s was punched in the face at the Upton Social Club in Poole Road. Police and the ambulance service were called to the scene. The victim was taken to hospital with multiple skull fractures and blood clots on the brain.
Following enquiries, police arrested Steven Wenzel then charged him in connection with the incident.
37-year-old Wenzel went on trial at Bournemouth Crown Court on Thursday 31 July and Friday 1 August 2025, where he was convicted for inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
Detective Constable Fiona Napier, of Dorset Police, said: “This was a nasty assault committed by Steven Wenzel, who then fled the scene in efforts to evade our officers."
“We responded swiftly to attend the scene and launched a full investigation into the circumstances. I am pleased that we were able to apprehend Wenzel and ensure he faced justice for his actions."
“There is no excuse for Wenzel’s violent actions which left the victim with significant brain injuries and the courts have reflected the severity of this offence with a prison sentence. I would like to thank the victim and his family for their support throughout the investigation.”
