Fire crews tackle blaze at derelict hotel in Sandown

Fire crews have been dealing with a large blaze at a derelict hotel in Sandown on the Isle of Wight overnight.
It started at the property on Carter Street at around 6pm on Saturday (18 October) with six crews dispatched to the scene.
People living nearby were told to keep doors and windows closed because of the smoke.
In a post on X on Saturday, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service said: "We are currently tackling a large fire at a derelict hotel on Carter Street in Sandown, IOW.
"Residents in the area are advised to keep their doors and windows closed due to smoke and we ask that people avoid the area while we deal with this incident."
No injuries have been reported.
In an update, the fire service said on Sunday: "All crews have now returned to station. Our fire investigation team will now work with the police to try and establish the cause of the fire."
