A 27-year-old man has been sentenced to 23 years in prison after being convicted of a violent and sexual assault on a woman in Denmead.

Ben Siddle, from Willow Park, Havant, attacked the woman, who is in her 20s, by punching and kicking her while wearing steel toe cap boots.

Siddle's abuse extended to throwing a diffuser at her, pouring its contents on her face causing burns, biting her arm, and sending abusive messages.

He further damaged her property and intimidated the victim to retract her police statement.

Court proceedings and convictions

Charged with offences committed between August 2021 and October 2023, Siddle was found guilty following a trial at Portsmouth Crown Court.

He was convicted of three counts of sexual assault involving penetration, three counts of causing actual bodily harm, two counts of assault by beating, intimidation of a witness, and criminal damage.

On Friday 17th April, Siddle received a 23-year prison sentence, along with a restraining order, and will be placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.

Victim's bravery and police support

Detective Constable Gemma Hodgkinson from Winchester CID commended the victim's courage:

"Ben Siddle’s behaviour was abhorrent, leaving the victim in fear for two years. Her bravery in securing justice ensures Siddle cannot harm others."
