Air traffic controllers in urgent need across South Coast
It comes as new research finds there's 2.5 unemployed people for every vacancy in the UK
As it’s found just under one million young people are now not in education, employment or training, we’re hearing air traffic controllers are in urgent need.
The latest ONS figures showing there are now 2.5 unemployed people for every vacancy in the UK, while vacancies have fallen to 712,000, down 2.5% on a year ago.
It comes as air traffic controllers are needed now more than ever as during the summer peak, more than 8,000 flights are managed within UK skies’.
Claire Burton, NATS Head of Talent Acquisition & Onboarding, from Southampton, said: "Air traffic is increasing and we've got enough air traffic controllers to meet the demand right now; but actually what we're doing is making sure that we're future proofing and we've got enough air traffic controllers to look after the demand in the future as well."
Air traffic controllers sit at the heart of the national aviation infrastructure, safely managing the aircraft carrying millions of passengers across the country and beyond.
Ms Burton told us her advice to those considering the career.
She said: "Give it a go.
"You don't know if you've got those innate skills or not, so have a go.
"You're not going to lose anything by popping your application in and having a go at the first round of tests.
"If you're successful, who knows? You could end up in a six figure salary."
