A woman has appeared in court and denied murdering her two-year-old daughter.

Sarah Ngaba, 31, of HMP Foston Hall in Derbyshire, was charged by West Mercia Police in May with murdering Eliza Ngaba, who died at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford on August 15 2022.

Appearing at Stafford Crown Court on Wednesday for a 20-minute hearing, Ngaba, formerly of Briarwood in Telford, denied one count of murder in front of Judge Kristina Montgomery KC.

Ngaba, who wore a green coat with a fur-lined hood and was flanked in the dock by a custody officer, spoke only to confirm her name and enter her plea.

Judge Montgomery set the date for trial, which is expected to last three weeks, as April 27 2026.

She urged Ngaba to "play your part" in providing her solicitors with information ahead of a further case management hearing in September.
