Councillor Paul Singh has been elected as the new mayor of Wolverhampton for the 2026/27 municipal year.

The Conservative councillor, who has been representing Penn ward since 2007, was chosen at a full meeting of the City of Wolverhampton Council on Wednesday, 20th May.

Cllr Singh replaces outgoing mayor Cllr Craig Collingswood and becomes the city's 167th mayor.

Cllr Singh said, “Wolverhampton gave me a chance and a place to belong.

“The people of this city are among the best in this country.

“My hope is to serve this city with pride, dignity and respect.”

He said he was "proud to have been born in India and made in the Black Country."

The mayor’s chosen charities include The Friends of Di’s Kitchen, which delivers food to those in need across the city, and Inspire You, which supports young people in finding and developing their talents.

Cllr Singh, who said the motto for his mayoral year would be ‘Through Sports We Grow’ in celebration of the difference that sport has made on his life, will also raise vital funds for Wolverhampton Boxing Club and Wolverhampton Judo Club.

Cllr Sohail Khan, who nominated Singh, praised him for representing the city’s resilience and hard-working spirit.

Additionally, Cllr Wendy Thompson was elected as deputy mayor, with her cousin Caraline Holding serving as consort for the civic year.
