West Midlands Police have seen a 40% increase of firearms seized in 2024, compared to last year.

This year, 210 lethal barrelled firearms were recovered by West Midlands Police since January – last year 150 were seized.

Amongst the 210 guns was a Madsen machine gun. It was hidden behind a bath panel at a home in Stechford, along with tools to convert blank-firing guns into live weapons.

West Midlands Police have also made 45 arrests in connection to the seizures.

Det Supt Ryan Chambers, head of the Major Crime Unit, said: ā€œWe’ve had a hugely successful year targeting the criminals who pose the biggest threat to the safety of people in the West Midlands.

ā€œThe impact of taking 200 guns off the streets of the region in a year can’t be underestimated.ā€
