Operation Hercules targets breaches of street cruising injunction
Authorities seized dozens of vehicles during a Saturday night operation across the West Midlands aimed at disrupting illegal street racing activities.
The operation, conducted by the Op Hercules team on 8th August, targeted roads in Dudley, Birmingham, and Coventry following intelligence of a large meet-up that could disrupt local communities.
Teams from various parts of the force collaborated to prevent disruption and crime.
During the operation, a Lamborghini and 12 other cars were seized for violating a street cruising injunction.
Officers issued 18 fines for offences including driving without insurance, speeding, utilising a mobile phone while driving, ignoring red lights, and operating vehicles in dangerous conditions.
Sergeant Ade Brown from Operation Hercules emphasised the impact of their enforcement: "The 'shutdown' didn’t happen. This should be a serious reminder to people who think it’s okay to come to the West Midlands and carry out illegal street racing that we will take action."
He highlighted the dangers associated with street racing, noting its potential to cause serious injury or fatalities.
"Our priority is always to keep the roads safe for everyone," Brown said.
Operation Hercules is part of an ongoing initiative aimed at targeting individuals involved in street racing or car cruising in anti-social and dangerous manners.
High Court rulings have imposed a ban on street racing in Birmingham and the Black Country, with breaches constituting contempt of court and penalties ranging from imprisonment to fines or asset seizures.
The injunctions prohibit participation, whether driving, as a passenger, or as an observer, in gatherings involving motor racing, stunts, or obstructive driving.
