West Mercia Police warning people of QR codes on stickers leading to websites selling illegal substances
The force are urging people to report it if they see any
West Mercia Police are telling people to be careful around any potential QR codes on stickers they see which could lead to website selling illegal substances and to report it if they see any.
It follows after Worcester City Council confirmed it was aware of some stickers in the area of the city, which it says have since been removed.
A QR code is an barcode like image which can be scanned by device such as mobile phones and take people to external links such as a website.
DC Matt Pedrick is the controlled drugs liaison officer for the police force and he says it is something they've been tackling.
"The products that are sold via these QR codes are potentially dangerous,” he said.
“We’ve been aware of these for quite a while now, they tend to be posted in areas people frequent so around shops, bus stops, schools unfortunately.
“My advice to anybody if they see any of the QR codes posted anywhere is to remove them, take them down and report it to your local policing team.”
