Police target drivers breaking the law during road safety operation in Walsall
Initiative aims to combat dangerous driving as part of #SaferTownsSummer
In a recent road safety operation, authorities in Walsall took action against drivers flouting the law, seizing vehicles and reporting motorists for various offences.
The Multi-Agency Road Safety Operation (MARSO) was conducted on 23rd June near Walsall Arboretum.
During the operation, seven vehicles were seized, and 14 drivers were reported for infractions such as driving without insurance, using mobile phones while driving, and violating regulations regarding window tints.
The operation was spearheaded by the Road Harm Prevention Team, with support from officers in St Matthew’s, alongside several partner organisations committed to road safety.
Participating organisations included the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), DataTag, and Walsall Council’s licensing team.
Emily Fawlk, Road Harm Prevention Officer in Walsall, highlighted the importance of the initiative:
“We understand that road safety is a real concern for residents, and days like these are a key part of our commitment to keeping everyone safe.”
In addition to enforcing traffic laws, the operation provided an opportunity to educate the public on road safety practices.
Fawlk acknowledged the collaborative nature of MARSOs:
“Through MARSOs, we join forces with our partners to share expertise, resources and responsibility enabling us to tackle dangerous driving behaviour and make the streets safer for everyone.”
As part of the #SaferTownsSummer campaign, continued efforts are being made to ensure that town centres and shopping areas remain secure and inviting.
