19-year-old jailed for violent robberies targeting women at West Midlands tram station
Tyrone Downing received a four-year sentence following British Transport Police investigation
A teenager from Wolverhampton has been jailed for committing a series of violent robberies at Wednesbury Parkway tram station in the West Midlands.
Tyrone Downing, 19, received a four-year sentence at Wolverhampton Crown Court on 26th August after pleading guilty to multiple charges, including three counts of robbery, two counts of vehicle theft, and attempted robbery.
Between July 2024 and March 2025, Downing targeted individuals at the station, focusing primarily on women.
His first known offence occurred on 26th July 2024, when he approached a woman at the tram stop wearing a balaclava and demanded her car keys. As she attempted to flee, Downing struck her in the face.
Subsequent incidents included the robbery of a man on 8th August 2024, during which Downing brandished a small knife and slashed the victim's arm.
On 27th August 2024, he confronted a woman with a child demanding her car keys; after she refused, he struck her and stole her vehicle.
Downing's final known crime on 31st March 2025 involved holding a woman at knifepoint to steal her car keys and push her to the ground before escaping in her Audi A3.
British Transport Police led a detailed investigation, utilising CCTV footage, victim narratives, and forensic evidence to link Downing to his crimes.
He was arrested in Wolverhampton on 19th April 2025, and subsequently charged by the Crown Prosecution Service.
Detectives discovered videos on Downing's social media showing him driving the stolen vehicles, though they were never recovered.
BTP Detective Constable Aaron Murdoch commented, "Tyrone Downing is a callous and violent offender who deliberately targeted women to steal their cars... I hope his prison term provides the victims with some measure of justice and closure."
