A man from Telford has avoided jail after assaulting his ex-partner, leaving her with a perforated eardrum, bruises and grab marks.

Tony Price, of Church Road in Dawley, Telford, previously pleaded guilty to two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Shrewsbury Crown Court heard how the attacks happened in 2018.

On the first occasion, Price hit the victim to the back of her head with force which left her with a perforated ear drum.

Two months later, he broke into her home and assaulted her again, leaving her with bruises on her body.

"ferocious assaults behind closed doors"

Detective Sergeant Geoff Anslow, from the force's Public Protection Unit, said: “Price subjected his victim to ferocious assaults behind closed doors, leaving her with bodily injuries including bruising, grab marks and a perforated ear drum.

"Price lied during his police interviews in the face of what appeared to be overwhelming evidence. I am pleased that he has now finally admitted his guilt and that he has been convicted accordingly.

"I would like to commend the victim for her resilience and patience as the matter made its way through the criminal justice system, and hope that she can now begin to rebuild her life having escaped from this abusive relationship.”

The sentence

Price has now been sentenced for two counts of actual bodily harm, with a charge of coercive and controlling behaviour ordered to lie on file.

He was handed a two year jail sentence suspended for two years, and given a five years restraining order.

He must also carry out 300 hours of unpaid work and pay £1,000 in compensation to the victim.
