A man has been jailed after a loaded gun was recovered following a fight in Tipton.

West Midlands Police were alerted to a weapon being brandished during the fight on Peel Street at around 6:30pm on 26th April.

Officers attended quickly and recovered a handgun along with ammunition from the area, the force said.

The man involved had already fled in a car, but enquiries from the force's Major Crime Unit identified him as 46-year-old Choudry Ahmed, from Tipton.

He was arrested the following month.

Ahmed admitted possession of a firearm, having ammunition and possession of a Class B drug.

He was jailed for seven years and six months at Wolverhampton Crown Court last Wednesday, 7th October.

West Midlands Police said the case was linked to Operation Target, part of its work against serious and organised crime in the region.
