The Police and Crime Commissioner is reassuring people that hate crime will be taken seriously by officers in the West Midlands.

It comes after two people were killed in an attack on a Synagogue in Manchester earlier this month.

As part of National Hate Crime Awareness week our local forces will be carrying out activities to tackle hate crime, including education on reporting hate crime, promoting community reporting centres, and showcasing ongoing work to prevent and address these offenses.

Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Foster said:

"I expect that when it is reported West Midlands Police will take it seriously and whenever and wherever possible perpetrators will be brought to justice so they face the consequences of their actions and are held to account."

"There is absolutely no place for hate and division in the West Midlands and I expect West Midlands Police to challenge hate crime whenever they are faced with it."

He also reassured communities that the local force are taking all the steps they can to provide reassurance following the incident last week.

You can find out more about how to report a hate crime on the West Midland Police website.
