A pilot using CCTV to tackle illegal parking is due to be launched outside two schools in Telford and Wrekin after the October half-term, according to a local councillor.

Cllr Thomas Janke said the trial will take place outside Newport Junior School and Moorfield Primary School.

He said it is aimed at improving road safety for children, parents and the wider community.

According to Cllr Janke, the CCTV technology will be used to monitor and enforce restrictions in keep-clear zones.

He said unsafe parking in those zones continues to be an ongoing concern.

Cllr Janke said the plan follows longstanding collaboration with Telford & Wrekin Council's Enforcement Team over illegal and inconsiderate parking around schools.

He said the pilot should also free up Neighbourhood Enforcement Officer resources, so they can deal with other nuisance parking problems across the area.

'I'm hopeful this pilot will help make better use of those resources and ensure more of these problems receive the attention they deserve,' Cllr Janke said.
