Telford actor hoping to inspire others with hair loss through Edinburgh Fringe Festival show
Emily Glaze lost her hair due to alopecia when she was 21
A woman from Telford is taking her deeply personal one woman show based off her experience with hair loss to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with the hope of inspiring others.
Emily Glaze was 21 when she lost her hair due to alopecia - she's now created a one-woman show based on her journey.
She described the show, called Basic Bald B*tch, as "camp, messy, tragic and silly, but in the best way."
"I guess it's about the lengths we go to try and fit in, because I guess hair is everything," she said.
"It's a bit of a roller-coaster journey about what it means to lose your sense of self.
The show, Emily said, is semi-autobiographical, but revolves around the fictional character of Amy and is based off some of her own experiences as she navigated her condition.
She said she never would have imagine she would be performing at the biggest arts festival in the world championing her baldness.
"So much of my life I've spent hiding, and it feels really empowering to finally be at a place where I'm ready to share this story and hopefully inspire others," Emily said.
She hopes the show will be seen by people with alopecia, hair loss or other physical differences, and inspire them to be confident.
Emily said: "I remember when I first started losing my hair, I do remember thinking oh, who else is going through this that I know?
"Who are the people on my telly that I can be like, oh, they look like me, so I think representation is absolutely key."
Emily said while representation in media has come a long way, it can "absolutely" be better."
She added: "I really hope that anyone who's experiencing or hair loss or who has alopecia can come and see the show and be empowered to be in their own skin."
