Shoppers in Shropshire are being encouraged to shop local as today marks 'Small Business Saturday.'

The initiative is part of a year-round national movement to spotlight the small businesses that make a big difference to our communities and economy.

Bespoke hamper business, Elite Hampers, are one of Telford's local businesses that have been recognised. They are honoured to have been named as one of the UK's top 100 most inspiring businesses of the year.

A special reception at the House of Lords celebrated the UK's small business community, whilst also highlighting their individual achievements.

Jeevan Punj, founder of Elite Hampers said:

"We add so much value to the local economy!

"If you're buying something anyway, buy it from a local business.

"With 'Small Business Saturday,' it's all about helping those independent businesses thrive and succeed."

The day inspires customers nationwide to support their local independent businesses online, and in stores. It can be across sectors from retail and restaurants to professional services.

Many small businesses mark the occasion with special events, promotions, and collaborative initiatives.
