As skincare products become a popular addition to many young people’s Christmas lists in Shropshire, a local expert is raising concerns about their potential impact.

Fliss Williams, a skin specialist from Elite Skin Studio in Shropshire, says that while colourful packaging and trendy marketing make these products appealing, they aren’t always suitable for youthful skin.

She said:

"Many active products like retinol and strong acids are not beneficial for younger skin.

"Young skin in some cases don't need any products at all, so using strong ingredients in things like moisturisers, serums and cleansers can cause more damage to under-developed skin."

Experts encourage parents and young people to prioritise gentle, age-appropriate products over those designed for adults.

With holiday shopping in full swing, Williams urges caution and research before adding the latest trendy creams and serums to your shop.

She says simple, gentle, SPF and well-formulated products are often the safest bet for young skin.
