Ellesmere distillery crafts new spirits from surplus food
The Shropshire Distillery said it was inspired by a food hub charity for the new product
A distillery in Ellesmere has crafted a creative new product with the goal of also tackling the issue of food waste.
The Shropshire Distillery is using surplus food, including fruits and even bread to create new spirits.
The distillery's founders, Emma and Gareth Glynn, said it was a trip to the Shrewsbury Food Hub charity that inspired their latest product range.
"When we went to the Food Hub in Shrewsbury, we actually realised how much food is surplus there," said Gareth.
"It's quite astonishing.
"That sent us on a journey - started the cogs whirling - about what we could do to help and stop this food going to waste."
Their RE:PURPOSE line so far includes drinks such as a bread spirit, which is similar to a whiskey, a raspberry vodka and a citrus vodka.
Gareth added: "We're constantly experimenting and discovering new things that leads us to create new drinks and see what works best.
"It's an evolution, shall we say - we're always looking to do different things."
So far, the distillery says customers have been loving the new spirits made from working with the charity.
"The customers' reactions have been fantastic to be honest," Gareth said.
"Hence why we've moved along and pushed forward with this.
"The feedback so far has been amazing so long may that continue."
