Officers in Walsall have been intensifying efforts to tackle anti-social behaviour and reduce Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) as part of the #SaferStreetsWinter campaign.

Throughout December, police focused on town centre pubs, bars and clubs, conducting high-visibility patrols on busy nights into the early hours.

Additionally, officers carried out drug testing on tables and toilets, and spoke directly with young women on nights out to offer advice on staying safe. They also gathered information about women at potential risk of exploitation while working with partners to disrupt individuals who exploit women.

High-visibility patrols have also been extended to key transport hubs, including bus and train stations over the next few winter months. Officers will continue patrolling anti-social behaviour hotspots, providing reassurance and a visible deterrent for women and girls.

Sgt Alex Backrath, neighbourhood policing supervisor in Walsall, said:

“Working alongside our partners our teams in Walsall town centre have been carrying out patrols and engagement focussing on VAWG and ensuring women are safe on a night out.

"This action is all part of our #SaferStreetsWinter and we continue to carry out activities around VAWG and anti-social behaviour in Walsall over the winter months.”

This work forms part of the national Winter of Action initiative, which sees forces across the region collaborating with partners to tackle crime, reassure communities, and ensure town centres remain welcoming and safe for everyone.
