A freight train derailment in Oxley is causing significant travel disruptions for passengers passing through Wolverhampton.

The incident took place at around 8.30pm on Tuesday, 5th May, when one wagon of a freight train derailed at low speed.

The derailment caused damage to the track and overhead power lines.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the derailed wagon remained upright.

Despite the low-speed nature of the derailment, the complexities involved in removing the wagon and repairing the damage mean disruptions will continue until at least Thursday, 7th May.

Passengers are urged to check for the latest travel information before heading out.

Currently, there are no trains running between Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury.

West Midlands Railway has initiated a shuttle service between Shrewsbury and Telford.

Transport for Wales (TfW) services to and from Birmingham Airport are impacted as well, with all journeys now starting and ending at Shrewsbury.

TfW has organised buses between Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton to assist passengers.

While the line between Wolverhampton and Stafford remains open, passengers may experience changes to their services.

Adam Checkley, Network Rail's Central route infrastructure director, emphasised the importance of prompt repairs and thanked passengers for their patience.

Network Rail is collaborating closely with train operators to manage passenger movement and with the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) to identify the cause of the derailment.
