Meole Brace Park and Ride in Shrewsbury will continue running for now, after the council say they found money to keep it going.

Shropshire Council had previously said the service would be suspended from November 1 as part of changes to bus services across the county.

The council said this was because of a cut in government funding for local buses and higher costs for bus operators.

It has now found extra money from changes to parking charges introduced in November 2025, which will be used to keep the Meole Brace service running temporarily.

The extension will give the council more time to decide what should happen to Park and Ride services in Shrewsbury in the longer term.

The council says it is looking at having two Park and Ride sites in the town, including a possible site at Bowbrook.

Councillor Rob Wilson, the council's cabinet member for transport and regeneration, said: "Residents have made their feelings about Park & Ride services very clear, and we have listened.

"The original decision wasn't about whether we believe in Park & Ride. It was about affordability."

He added: "By looking again at our parking income, we have found a way to keep Meole running temporarily. That gives us some valuable breathing space to develop the right long-term solution."

The council will also look at whether it could work with the NHS and Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, and whether money from new developments could help pay for Park and Ride facilities.
