Police are investigating after a group of people were threatened with weapons during a reported robbery in Shrewsbury.

It happened at around 10:30pm on Monday night at the Battlefield park and ride.

Two men in a white van approached a group standing with a bike.

They got out wearing balaclavas, one holding a machete and the other a hammer, and demanded to know who owned the bike.

When a member of the group tried to step in, they were hit with the hammer.

The bike was taken and loaded into the van, which drove off towards Harlescott Lane.

People from the group followed in their cars, and the suspects fled on foot.

Following initial enquiries, a 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and remains in custody.
