Nine fire crews tackle large field fire near Bridgnorth
It spanned 40 hectares
Nine fire crews have been working to tackle a large field fire near Bridgnorth today (6 July).
Shropshire Fire and Rescue say they were called at around 1.30pm to reports of a wildfire at Kingsnordley.
They say the fire spanned across 40 hectares of crops, shrubbery and hedgerow.
Firefighters from Bridgnorth, Church Stretton, Cleobury Mortimer, Market Drayton, Newport, Shrewsbury, Telford Central, Tweedale and Wellington fire stations attended.
They also had assistance from Hereford & Worcester and West Midlands fire service.
It took almost four hours to extinguish the fire.
People were urged to avoid the area at the time.
A Shropshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "Thank you to everyone for their patience and cooperation whilst crews responded to the wildfire in Kingsnordley, Bridgnorth.
"The incident is now under control. A special thank you to local residents for following our advice and staying away, allowing crews to work safely and effectively.
"Your continued support is greatly appreciated."
