Thousands of children in Wolverhampton are benefitting from free holiday activities, as part of scheme set up by the City Council.

15,000 children and young people have already signed up.

What is Yo! Active?

Yo! Active offers free holiday activities throughout the year, including indoor racket sports, swimming, arts and crafts and a youth gym.

You are eligible for the activities if you are:

  • Under the age of 18
  • A care leaver under the age of 25
  • Disabled under the age of 25

'Improve health'

Councillor Obaida Ahmed, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Community, said: "Yo! Active is a brilliant way to inspire our children and young people to take part in regular physical activities, with a fantastic range of free opportunities available not only this Christmas, but all year round.

"Becoming more physically active can help improve heart health, build strong bones and muscles, control weight and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, and it's also a great way to make new friends.

"Around 15,000 children and young people have already signed up to Yo! Active, and I'd encourage other youngsters, parents and guardians to check out what is on offer and sign up so that their children can enjoy free access to these high quality physical activities.”

'Remove barriers'

The Yo! Active campaign started at the beginning of the year in partnership with WV active and the Wolves Foundation.

Tom Warren, Senior Manager at Wolves Foundation, said:

“The project will remove barriers to children and young people taking part in physical activity, with a range of opportunities on offer. Our highly motivated staff are driven to achieve positive change.”
