Four men have been arrested after police recovered a live handgun, dozens of bullets and several swords from a car in Wolverhampton.

Officers were alerted yesterday afternoon (15 September) to a vehicle driving dangerously on the Black Country Route and making a series of illegal undertakes.

Firearms and traffic teams pursued and stopped the car, detaining the four men inside.

A search uncovered a handgun with more than fifty rounds of ammunition along with a number of swords.

All four men remain in custody today and are being questioned by detectives from the Major Crime Unit.

The arrests are part of Operation Target, West Midlands Police’s ongoing campaign against serious and organised crime.

The force says the crackdown not only focuses on firearms, drugs and fraud, but also on tackling exploitation of children and vulnerable people linked to organised gangs.

Alongside arresting suspects, Operation Target also puts prevention at its core, with work aimed at disrupting criminal networks and educating communities to stop people becoming victims in the first place.
